Health Information Technology Committee
Health information technology (HIT), like electronic medical records and information exchange that allow important medical information to follow a patient from doctor to doctor, is an important tool for improving the quality of medical care provided.
The HIT Committee brings together the state’s major healthcare stakeholders for the purpose of promoting Louisiana’s HIT/HIE infrastructure in order to enhance the quality, efficiency and safety of care, including the Medicaid population.
The HIT/HIE Committee is focusing its work in the following areas:
- Assessment and facilitation of the coordination of current HIT/HIE initiatives;
- Working toward the adoption of a common HIT/HIE framework and principles in healthcare providers state-wide;
- Working toward the adoption of Electronic Medical Records (EMR) and other clinical information and decision support systems at the provider level, including Medicaid, through technical assistance and the pursuit of funding;
- Translating and implementing national voluntary and regulatory HIT/HIE standards at the state and local level, including but not limited to personal health information privacy and security and data exchange;
- Working to promote state, regional and national interoperability capacity and capabilities in Louisiana through Regional Health Information Organizations (RHIOs) and the National Health Information Network (NHIN);
- Leveraging public and private investment in HIT/HIE.
